Have you noticed our youth today? Their only means of communication seems to be text. Their ability to have conversations is limited, and therefore the skills they need to move their dreams, and goals ahead are also limited.
Is your son or daughter able to address a teacher when they do not understand a particular unit at school? Can you children talk to your friends when they come over for a visit? What does your family time sound like these days?
It is because of technology that our young adults are not prepared for interviews, tough conversations, and to work through conflict. Kids these days are even breaking up relationships with text messages…talk about sad.
So, what can you do to help your youth?
- Have a family meeting. This is a time to share, plan and talk! If they know there is something in it for them, they will agree and learn to love the opportunity to come together. Our family will come up with the best vacation ideas during our family meetings.
- Join a group with your youth such as Toastmasters, where talking is the reason for being. These types of networking opportunities encourage and build confidence while speaking.
- Get coached, speaking coaches are there to help you learn how to communicate. It is time our youth rediscover their voice; learn to ask for what they want, and build techniques to overcome challenges and conflicts in their life.
Speaking for Success includes confidence, clarity and commitment. Speaking is still the answer to living the life you want.
